We are delighted to host the Youth Chamber Music Choir from the parish of St. Margareta in Dusseldorf  at Knock Shrine on Friday, July 19th next. The choir will sing at the public Mass in Knock Basilica at 3pm on the day.  Later in the afternoon, they will meet with our own ‘Schola’ group for an informal get together.

The highlight of the day will be a short musical evening  performed by both choirs in Knock  Parish Church by both groups.  The evening promises to be a musical delight. The concert will take place at 7.30pm and is free of charge. We welcome you to join us.

Here are some details about the St Margareta Youth Chamber Choir and a flavour of  evening.

Jugendkammerchor St. Margareta Düsseldorf (Youth Chamber Choir)

The youth chamber music choir of the parish St. Margareta in Düsseldorf-Gerresheim is an exquisite and smaller selection of members of the youth choir of the same parish. The talented singers of the chamber music choir were seeking additional opportunities to learn and perform advanced pieces of choral music and therefore initiated the foundation of this ensemble in 2015. 19 young women between 12 and 24 years of age are part of this group today. Due to the excellent reputation of the choir, they have been invited to give concerts throughout Germany as well as Moscow. In summer 2018, they acquired the “gold medal” as the best youth choir in the well-known competition “Jugend singt” of the province of North-Rhine-Westfalia, competing with a total of 28 different youth choirs. Following up to this domestic success the choir achieved two further gold medals at the International Choir Competition in Maastricht (February 2019).

The ensemble has performed a variety of pieces of famous composers such as Mendelssohn, Fauré, Debussy, Britten, Chilcott and many more. Director of the chamber music choir “St. Margareta” is Klaus Wallrath; pianist Natalia Hildebrandt.
