Easter Ceremonies 2023

Celebrate Easter at Knock Shrine

“This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

He commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead.

To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Acts 10:34a, 37-43

Holy Week is the most solemn and meaningful time in the Catholic liturgical year. It is a time when we commemorate the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This week, we reflect on the love and sacrifice that Jesus made for us by offering his life on the cross.

On Holy Thursday, we celebrate the Last Supper when Jesus instituted the Eucharist, and we remember his washing of the feet of his disciples as a sign of humility and service.

On Good Friday, we commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus, and we participate in the Stations of the Cross, meditating on his suffering and death.

On Holy Saturday, we prepare for the resurrection by participating in the Easter Vigil, where we renew our baptismal promises and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

Finally, on Easter Sunday, we celebrate the joy of the Resurrection and the triumph of life over death. We attend Mass and share in the joy of the Risen Lord.

During this Holy Week, let us reflect on our own lives and how we can imitate Christ’s love and sacrifice. Let us pray for the strength to carry our own crosses and to follow in his footsteps. May this Holy Week bring us closer to God and deepen our faith in his love and mercy.
