Murphy is a priest of the Diocese of Waterford & Lismore and has served as chaplain to the Irish Defence Forces for 12 years\, based at Mellows’ Barracks\, Galway\, including six overseas deployments to Syria\, Lebanon and Israel. In 2024 he survived an attempted murder and publicly offered forgiveness to his attacker. \n  \nWitness Walk \n6.45pm from the Chapel of Reconciliation \nThe Witness Walk is a quiet\, reflective walk through Knock Village that invites pilgrims to follow in the footsteps of those who witnessed the Knock Apparition on the evening of 21st August 1879. This simple walking route weaves through the village\, stopping at places connected to several of the fifteen official witnesses — local people\, young and old\, who came from their homes and nearby fields to see the Apparition at the gable wall of the parish church. \n  \n  \n8pm: Anniversary of the Apparition at Knock \nSheltered in God’s Love \nFr. Richard Gibbons\, PP and Rector of Knock Shrine leads this evening of celebration as we mark the anniversary of the Apparition\, which took place on the 21st of August 1879. \n  \n  \nGuided Tour of Knock Shrine \n11am from the information centre.
