The Knock Shrine Society was established in 1935 to serve the needs of sick and infirm pilgrims who visit Knock Shrine. The members of the Society have played a central role at Knock Shrine for over 80 years. The dedicated members of Cairde Mhuire are committed to serving at the Shrine, one day per month during the pilgrimage season. This opportunity is open to all men and women over 18 who wish to share their time and be of service to the Sick and Infirm and to assist in the Eucharistic and Liturgical services.
Our group of adult volunteers are an essential part of the team at Knock Shrine. Throughout the season, they greet pilgrims on arrival and direct them in finding the services throughout the grounds. They also assist stewarding our family liturgies and concerts and during the winter season they are on hand to help us in the preparation of promotional materials for distributing nationwide. All adult volunteers are trained for their area of volunteering and in accordance with the policies of the Catholic Church in the area of safeguarding. Garda vetting is also a requirement.
