Together in Faith

Together in Faith is an extensive renewal initiative underway now at Ireland’s National Marian Shrine, Knock, Co. Mayo.

Launched in late 2017, after the success of the Witness to Hope campaign, Together in Faith centres on the site of the Apparition, specifically the Parish Church and adjoining Apparition Chapel as well as crucial upgrades to the Shrine’s technology and infrastructure.

Preserving and Sharing

Enhancing our Apparition Site

Ensuring necessary improvements are made to our original parish church of St John the Baptist to help maintain it for future generations of local parishioners as well as our wider faith family.   Refurbishing and protecting our sanctuary, the Apparition Chapel, where the fifteen official Apparition witnesses gathered.

Promoting our Message

Reaching out to people across Ireland and the world, not all of whom are able to travel to our Shrine. We are greatly enhancing our online offerings and overhauling our online infrastructure to help pilgrims everywhere, partake in the celebration of Mass and special events from their homes.

Parish Church of St John the Baptist

Thanks to the continued support, generosity and prayers of pilgrims and parishioners across Ireland, and internationally, we have made great progress and celebrated some significant milestones since launching our second renewal initiative.

Given its international significance, the Parish Church has undergone extensive refurbishment works in order to preserve it for future generations.

Priorities included:

Repairing and repointing external walls
Restoring pews and stained glass windows
Installing a new organ
Upgrading lighting and heating

The Apparition Chapel

A sanctuary, the Apparition Chapel now encloses the area where fifteen people witnessed an Apparition on the 21st August, 1879. Preserving this site is crucial as it is the focal point for so many pilgrims who journey to Knock Shrine.

Our work comprises of the following:

Replacement and reglazing of the glass enclosing the sanctuary
Cleaning of the marble statues (sculpted in Italy in 1960)
Replacing flooring throughout

Promoting our Message

Essential IT Infrastructure

Visited by over one million people each year, Knock is one of the most important Marian Shrines in the world. Now, more than ever we are committed to share Knock’s message of hope with as many people as possible. Many of our devout followers may be unable to make the journey to Knock for a variety of reasons. We are completely overhauling our IT systems to bring our web offerings up to the most modern standards.

Work involves:

    • Improving technology standards to allow live streaming of services, enabling pilgrims to partake in all celebrations and special events here at Knock Shrine
    • Installing an online booking management system (for events, tours, catering) that allows us to efficiently log and prepare for visits for individuals and groups with special requirements
    • Upgrading of CCTV security systems to benefit visitors and staff
    • We believe we can reach out to people in even greater numbers to help them to experience this special Shrine and the unique sense of healing, peace and renewal that so many find here
