Join Cairde Mhuire, Knock Shrine Society
Our Society has been in existence since 1935. We volunteer at the Shrine one Sunday per month during the Pilgrimage season from May to October. We are known as Cairde Mhuire (Friends of Mary) and we come from all over Ireland. The work which is dedicated to Our Blessed Lady of Knock focuses on serving pilgrims.
In the Basilica, we assist as Ministers of Holy Communion, with Anointing of the Sick, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament as well as in the Rosary Processions. We ensure that the needs of people with sickness and disabilities are catered for. This is hugely rewarding work, offering plenty of variety as well as the opportunity to meet new people.
In the Confessional Chapel we welcome pilgrims and guide them to available Priests. Other duties include assisting with Mass Enrolments, serving refreshments in St John’s Welcome Centre and operating a souvenir shop for convenience of pilgrims. Members are trained in a variety of skills, including First Aid.
If you would like to join us, contact: John Hynes, President, Knock Shrine Society at 087 689 1422 or email knockshrinesociety@gmail.com
You may also call to St John’s Welcome Centre any Sunday between 12.00-2pm during the Pilgrimage Season for further information.
