This three armed Brigid’s cross  is known as the the farmers’ cross.

Traditionally, on the night of the 31st of January the head of the household would place the cross around the farm outside the buildings where animals shelter.  Then on the 1st of February the farmer would walk around the from and land invoking Brigid’s name to encourage growth in crops and welfare for livestock. Afterwards the cross was hung in the cowshed.
