Carmelite Community Celebrates 40 Years In Knock

On the Feast day of St. Teresa Of Avila, October 15th, the Carmelite Sisters at ‘Tranquilla’ Monastery, Knock celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding  of the Community at Knock Shrine.

This Carmelite Community was originally founded in Dublin in 1833. Fr. Finian Monahan, OCD, who was then Prior General of the Order, invited the Community to transfer to Knock in 1981.

May the Carmelite Community at Knock be a continual ‘Magnificat’ and through docility to the Holy Spirit may the sisters become, more and more, channels of God’s Merciful Love, for the Church in Ireland and the whole world

 – Fintan Monahan, OCD

This morning, a special Mass was celebrated by Fr. Richard Gibbons at the monastery to mark this momentous occasion.  We thank the Sisters for their presence here at Knock Shrine, for their prayers and spiritual support.
