Knock is 140 miles/220 Km from Dublin and 45 miles/70 Km from Galway. It is located on the N17 road, midway between Galway and Sligo.

By Bus
Bus services are available from all major towns and cities. All bus stops in Knock are within a short walking distance of the Shrine Grounds. For full information including timetables visit  Bus Eireann.
The Services which travel through Knock are:
No. 21 Dublin – Athlone Westport
No. 52 Galway – Castlebar – Westport – Ballina
No. 64 Galway – Ireland West Airport Knock – Sligo – Derry


These services stop at either Main Street or the Ballyhaunis Road.

By Train
The nearest railway station is Claremorris (7miles/11 km), which is on the Dublin Heuston – Westport Line. For full information including timetables visit Irish Rail.

Where do I get Holy water?

There is 18 outdoor Holy Water Fonts located in front of the Apparition Chapel. Pilgrims are welcome to bring their own containers to fill. Alternatively, Holy Water Bottles can be purchased from the Knock Shrine Bookshop or from any of the retailers in the village.

Where can I purchase Knock Shrine Friends Association Cards?

There are two Mass Card Offices at Knock Shrine where you can enrol a loved-one in the Knock Shrine Friends Association. Once enrolled, members share in two Masses offered each day at Knock Shrine. Cards can also be purchased online. Please see the Shop section of this website.

We can now accept payment over the phone and are happy to mail cards out to you.

Are there public toilets onsite?

Yes. There are public toilets located within the Shrine Grounds with Wheelchair Access and Baby Changing Facilities.

Is there a Café/ Restaurant onsite?

Yes, Café Le Chéile, Member of the Restaurants Association, is open daily from 10am-6pm and also offers extended opening times during the annual Novena to Our Lady of Knock from 14-22 August. Café Le Chéile is located beside Knock Museum and offers a range of fresh food with daily special and delicious home baking. Booking is advised during busy period from June-August.

I am visiting with an individual/s with mobility needs, are there services available to help them get around?

Yes. Knock Shrine has excellent services available for those with mobility needs. There is a Shuttle Bus running daily during the pilgrimage season from April – October and from Thursday- Sunday during the winter months.

There are public toilets located around the Shrine grounds with wheelchair access and baby changing facilities.

St. John’s Rest & Day Care Centre is available for visiting pilgrims. There is an Emergency Medical Technician on duty and a local doctor is also available. For pilgrims that feel unwell or need to rest, our centre has a first aid room and suitable facilities for pilgrims to use.

Any pilgrim, wishing to hire a wheelchair, can book in advance or request on the day, the use of a wheelchair from our centre, during our opening hours: 10 to 5pm approx. It is best to book a wheelchair in advance, so as to ensure its availability, at the time of your arrival in Knock. Our wheelchair hire is convenient, with wheelchair parking right outside our centre.

I am visiting with a group, do we need to book prior to our visit?

In order to have a fulfilling and engaging experience in Knock, it is recommended that groups avail of the excellent services available for groups, such as a Guided Tour of Knock Shrine Grounds, a tour of the Award-Winning Knock Museum (Audio Guides available in seven languages), or watch ‘The Story of Knock’ in the Audio Visual Centre at Knock Shrine.
Groups are also catered for at Café Le Chéile and Knock House Hotel, which offer comfortable surroundings, excellent menus and welcoming, friendly staff.
Group menus are available upon request.

I am visiting with a group, how can I book a private Mass at Knock Shrine?

Group who are travelling with a priest can book a private Mass at Knock Shrine. Priests celebrating Mass must present a celebrat card. Please contact the Shrine office for further information or to book.

I would like to organise a pilgrimage from my Parish, how can I find out about this?

The Staff at Knock Shrine will be delighted to assist pilgrimage organisers and promoters in arranging and planning their pilgrimages. New groups are always welcome and will be given full assistance in putting their plans together. Please contact the Knock Shrine Office for further information.

When does the Annual Knock Novena take place?

The Novena to Our Lady of Knock takes place from the 14-22 (inclusive) every year. There are two ceremonies daily at 3pm and 8.30pm as well as daily workshops and seminars with a range of guest speakers.

Knock Youth Ministry can cater for Primary schools, (Communion and Confirmation classes), Secondary Schools & Third-level colleges. Over-nights- Over-night retreats can also be accommodated

How can I place a petition to Knock Shrine?

Pilgrims visiting Knock can place a petition in any of the petition boxes located around in any of the Churches in the Shrine. Petitions can also be submitted online by visiting the Place a Petition section of the site.
