Journey through Lent

Come, Flame of divine love,

and burn up the thorns of my sins,

kindling my heart

with the flame of thy love.

Next week we begin our journey through Lent on the 2nd March, Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday always occurs six and a half weeks before Easter, encompassing the 40-day period of Lent. On this, one of the most significant days in the Church calendar, we receive ashes in the shape of a cross in their forehead as a reminder of our mortality, accompanied by the words “we are dust and to dust we shall return”.

Ashes given on this day symbolise both death and repentance in order to begin Lent in a solemn, humble way. This provides us with the opportunity  to reflect on our sins throughout Lent before Easter, when we will celebrate the resurrection of Christ.

You can join us for the celebration of the Eucharist at  9am, 12 noon, 3pm and 7.30pm (Rosary at 7pm). The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also available from 11am -3pm in the Chapel of Reconciliation. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament also takes place here daily.
