Using the recently installed ‘Knock miniature village model’ as the focal point, the seminar will explore all aspects of life in Ireland at the time of the Apparition in 1879, offering a fascinating insight into village life in Knock and the historical and social context of the Apparition. The seminar will end with a visit to the Museum to view the model.
Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh is Professor Emeritus in History and former Dean of Arts and Vice-President of NUIG. He was appointed to the Council of State by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins in 2012. One of the great historians of his generation, Professor Ó Tuathaigh has garnered enormous respect as a teacher, writer, university leader and public intellectual for over 40 years.
Nollaig Ó Muraíle is an Irish scholar. He published an acclaimed edition of Dubhaltach Mac Fhirbhisigh’s Leabhar na nGenealach in 2004. He was admitted to the Royal Irish Academy in 2009.
Tom Neary served as Chief Steward of The Knock Shrine Society for many years and is the author of many books and publications on the Knock Apparition.
