This Sunday, 26th April, at 3pm, Archbishop Francis Duffy will be installed as Bishop of Killala in St. Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina.
As a result, Archbishop Francis will be both Archbishop of Tuam and Bishop of Killala, until such time as both dioceses become one diocese. The movement towards the amalgamation of dioceses in Ireland is to better meet needs of the people in each diocese and utilise the resources available in order to proclaim the faith more effectively.
Other dioceses in the West are also at this stage including Galway and Clonfert, as well as Elphin and Achonry. This means that instead of having six Bishops in the West of Ireland (The Church Province of Tuam) we now have three.
May the Lord and Our Lady of Knock guide Archbishop Duffy and bless him in his ministry ahead.
