The Church of St John the Baptist, Knock

As part of the ‘Together in Faith’ programme of renewal at Knock Shrine, the refurbished Parish Church & Shrine Chapel will be rededicated.
The Parish Church and Apparition Chapel are at the very heart of Knock, where pilgrims and parishioners go to feel closer to God, to pray for their own personal intentions and celebrate important family and parish ceremonies..

The Church of St John the Baptist, is the oldest church in Knock, dating back to 1828 when it was built under Reverend P O’Grady who placed a stone inscription on the west wall: “My house shall be called a house of prayer to all nations. This is the gate of the Lord. The Just shall enter into it.”

This Church has a special place in the hearts of many. Its prayerful, peaceful atmosphere makes it not only the oldest, but also one of the most important places in Knock for parishioners and pilgrims alike. It is here that the fifteen witnesses worshipped at Mass and where many of the early pilgrims to Knock gathered in throngs to pray and to see the sacred site of the Apparition.

Our friends will be glad to see many of the familiar and unique features preserved for future generations and we are delighted to welcome them back to pray with us in this special place.
