The Witness Walk is a quiet, reflective walk through Knock Village that invites pilgrims to follow in the footsteps of those who witnessed the Knock Apparition on the evening of 21st August 1879. This simple walking route weaves through the village, stopping at places connected to several of the fifteen official witnesses — local people, young and old, who came from their homes and nearby fields to see the Apparition at the gable wall of the parish church.
Each stop along the way offers a short reflection or insight into where the witnesses were coming from that evening, helping to bring their experience to life in a gentle and thoughtful way. The walk offers a chance to slow down, take in the surroundings, and connect more personally with the story of Knock and the quiet faith of those who were there.
Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to a familiar place, the Witness Walk offers a new perspective on the events of that remarkable evening, grounded in the ordinary paths of everyday people.
The walk will begin at the Chapel of Reconciliation at 6.45pm, will meander through the village of Knock. We will also pause to pray for the repose of the souls of the Witnesses at the old graveyard. The walk will conclude with a short prayer at the Apparition Chapel, which encloses the gable wall where the Apparition took place.
