The Healing Power of Love

Guest Speaker: Fr. Paul Murphy

Fr Paul F. Murphy is a priest of the Diocese of Waterford & Lismore and has served as chaplain to the Irish Defence Forces for 12 years, based at Mellows’ Barracks, Galway, including six overseas deployments to Syria, Lebanon and Israel. In 2024 he survived an attempted murder and publicly offered forgiveness to his attacker, citing countless blessings on the night of the attack.

On the evening of the 21st of August 1879, the people of this small rural village witnessed a heavenly vision at the gable wall of the Parish Church. Our Lady appeared with St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist at her side. Unique to the Knock Apparition is the appearance of the Lamb standing before a Cross on a plain altar.

Join us for an evening of engaging liturgies, uplifting music and a commemoration of the ordinary people who witnessed something extraordinary on that wet August evening in 1879.

The Witness Walk

The Witness Walk is a quiet, reflective walk through Knock Village that follows in the footsteps of those who witnessed the Knock Apparition on the evening of 21st August 1879. This simple walking route weaves through the village, stopping at places connected to several of the fifteen official witnesses, local people, young and old, who came from their homes and nearby fields to see the Apparition at the gable wall of the parish church.

Each stop along the way offers a short reflection and insight into each of the witnesses, bringing their experience to life in a prayerful way. The walk offers a chance to slow down and connect more personally with the story of Knock and the quiet faith of those who were there on that wet Thursday evening in August 1879.
