Blessing of Candles on Candlemas

Blessing of candles will take place during each of our daily Masses on Monday, February 2nd, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also know as Candlemas. Masses take place in the Parish Church at 9am, 12 noon, 3pm and 7.30pm, with Rosary at 7pm.

Traditionally Candlemas is a day for devotion and prayer. On this day people bring candles to their local church. Candles were traditionally bequeathed to the church and a blessed candle would be handed back to each member of the congregation. These candles are during sacraments that occurred in family homes. Visits to graveyards are also popular on this day, with families and friends attending to the graves of their departed loved ones.
